HOW IT WORKS

01

New to LTL? We've got you covered

Although your business may be small, you always have big decisions to make about your company, customers, product, and supply chain. You don't have time to worry about shipping, which is just fine, because we've got you covered. Small businesses can trust DCLS Freight with their less-than-truckload (LTL) freight shipments.

New to the freight industry? You're in the right place. The resources below help explain LTL freight, the benefits of the unique solutions offered by DCLS Freight and provide tools to simplify the shipping process.

02

Let's start with the basics. What is LTL?

LTL stands for "Less-Than-Truckload" and typically refers to palletized freight weighing over 150 pounds and no more than 10,500 pounds. It can be 1 pallet up to 12 pallets meeting the weight requirement.

Parcel carriers handle small packages and freight that have been broken down into units weighing under 150 pounds.

03

How do I prepare an LTL Shipment?

Most LTL shipments are palletized, making preparation slightly more complicated than a small package shipment. Our Shipment Guide will help you properly package, stack and wrap your LTL shipments.

04

What is freight class?

Freight class is an industry standard methodology all LTL carriers use to rate shipments (along with distance, service and any additional services required). The freight class of each item is determined by the National Motor Freight Traffic Association to standardize rating in the LTL industry. Every product you ship will fall into one of the 18 different National Motor Freight Classification Class codes.

05

Do I really need a freight class?   Short answer: NO

If determining a freight class is like learning a foreign language, DCLS Freight offers Density-Based Rating - a rating methodology that allows you to simply measure your shipment rather than waste time trying to determine the proper freight class.
